Auto Collision Repair
Program Description
Mr. Wayne Tatman

The Auto Collision Repair program subject matter and learning activities are focused on basic techniques of auto collision repair.  Students will be instructed in the following areas: rough out, metal finishing, basic body repair, welding, panel replacement, basic and custom refinishing.  Students will also become proficient in the areas of shop management, shop safety and leadership.

Field experience is an integral part of each student's program provided through in school laboratory and out of school job placement experiences.

Auto collision repair and refinishing technicians can be certified by NATEF/ASE (National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation/Automotive Service Excellence).
Hands-On Experience
Auto Collision Repair students get extended learning in the laboratory by participating in the Customer Service Program. Students work on cars from the public during class hours, thus practicing the people skills of customer service along with the mechanic skills in automotive collision repair.
Career Opportunities
Collision Repair Technicians are hired by automobile dealerships and independant collision repair shops. As an experienced technician, you may also choose to open your own business, work as an adjuster for insurance companies or become a factory representative for industry suppliers.  Job titles include: aircraft body repairer, auto damage appraiser, auto glass installer, auto repair and maintenance, auto refinisher, car detailer, claims adjuster, examiner, coating and spraying machine operator, welding and metal worker, fabricator, accessory installer, collision repair technician, finisher, glazier, parts specialist, auto part sales.
Industry Overview
The industry is expected to grow from 10 - 20% with average salary rates between $15.03 and $22.00 per hour in the Columbus region.
