Program Description
Mr. Jerry Newman

Laboratory experiences include building a house while working within the guidelines of local building codes and national safety standards.  This experience helps graduates gain rapid employment in the many local construction or building material businesses.

Participation in SkillsUSA provides opportunities for leadership, citizenship and communication, at local, state and national levels.
Career Opportunities
The program consists of the basic core competancies required of students preparing for entry-level employment in the construction industry.  These positions could include rough framing, finishing, roofing, exterior finish, drywall installers and finishers, commercial carpenters, and related sales industries amoung many others.
Industry Overview
Job opportunities are expected to be excellent, as Construction activity should increase in response to demand for new housing and commercial and industrial plants and the need to renovate and modernize existing structures. The demand for larger homes with more amenities and for second homes will continue to rise, at the same time, the demand for manufactured housing, starter homes, and rental apartments also is expected to increase.
