Medical Assistant

Course Description: 

The 900-hour program is comprised of 608 hours classroom and hands-on instruction, 132 hours online instruction and 160 hours of externship. 

Students will learn to:

• Complete patient history and measure vital signs, weight and height.
• Assist physicians with examinations and procedures.
• Perform routine laboratory tests.
• Operate an EKG machine and other equipment.
• Draw blood and give injections.
• Clean and sterilize instruments.
• Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients.
• Complete insurance forms; maintain medical/office records.
• Perform reception duties.
• Operate office equipment, process office communications 

 The curriculum includes:

• 90 hours of medical terminology          • 9 hours of computers
• 90 hours of anatomy & physiology       • 9 hours of learning strategies
• 72 hours of medical billing & coding    • 31 hours of job search
• 144 hours of admin. med. office asst.  • 160 hours of externship
• 63 hours of phlebotomy                          • 232 hours of clinical MA

Program Schedule:

         August 20, 2012-June 6, 2013
         Monday through Thursday evenings 4:30-9:00 pm. 

Students are required to attend ten (10) scheduled Saturdays from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm. 

Students will also complete a 160-hour supervised, unpaid externship.  Externship hours will be arranged and completed concurrently with the class during traditional daytime business hours beginning in February

Requirements:

• Submit the $90 non-refundable application fee before orientation.
• Attend a WorkKeys / Orientation session.
• Provide proof of a high school diploma or GED.
• Submit proof of a physical exam.
• Begin Hepatitis B Immunization series by the first night of class. 
• Complete a two-step mantoux (TB test).
• Wear scrubs, lab coat and appropriate shoes to clinical and phlebotomy classes.

 $90 non-refundable application fee
 $6495 tuition

Financial Aid:

This is a Pell eligible program. Scholarship monies may be available to those who qualify. A payment plan is an option, if a promissory note is signed.

Upon completion:

Following successful completion of all course requirements, students will be eligible to sit for four nationally recognized credentialing exams for an additional fee.

In 2009-10, 64% of our students graduated, 7 of 7 completed the program in the normal time of 10 months, 5 students or 71% were hired, no students had any loan debt of any kind upon leaving the program, for a cost of $6345 plus an estimated cost of books and supplies of $1827.

In 2010-11, 86% of our students graduated, 6 of 6 completed the program in the normal time of 10 months, 4 students or 67% have been hired as of 6/30/2011, no students had any kind of loan debt upon leaving the program, for a cost of $6545 and an estimated cost of books and supplies of $1827.
