Nurse Aide

Course Description: 

The 76-hour Nurse Aide Program is comprised of 60 hours of classroom instruction and 16 hours of clinical training on-site in a facility. 

Students will learn to:

• Develop communication and interpersonal skills.
• Maintain infection control.
• Identify safety and emergency procedures. 
• Perform basic nursing skills.
• Complete personal care skills. 
• Explain mental health and social service needs
• Identify basic restorative services.
• Describe patients’ rights. 


The curriculum includes:

• Universal blood and body precautions
• Proper body mechanics and alignment
• Proper hand washing
• Use of a gait belt, walker, and vest restraint
• Applying antiembolic stockings
• Assisting with toileting
• Performing denture care
• Making an occupied bed
• Performing hair care, nail care, mouth care, perineal care and bed baths
• Transferring patients to wheelchairs
• Taking a patient’s vitals

Program Schedule:

Classes are routinely held Tuesdays through Thursdays,   
at Tolles from 5:00-8:30 pm, for 17 consecutive sessions. 

Two eight-hour days of clinicals are arranged with a local facility and are generally held during daytime hours. Several sections of Nurse Aide training are held annually.

Requirements:

• Submit the $60 non-refundable application fee before orientation.
• Attend a WorkKeys / Orientation session.
• Proof of a physical exam.
• Begin the Hepatitis B Immunization series by the first day of class. 
• Proof of a two-step mantoux.
If a student has had a 2-step mantoux within the past year, only a 1-step TB test is required.  If the test shows positive results, then an X-ray is needed. 

• Wear the appropriate scrubs, shoes and watch to the clinical site. 
• 100% attendance is required during the first 16 hours of classroom instruction, in order to be able to participate in the clinical training. 

Tuition and Fees

 $60 non-refundable application fee
 $725 tuition

Upon completion:

Following successful completion of all course requirements, students will be eligible to sit for the state certification exam.
