BASIC COMPUTER KEYBOARDING

 

Learn the correct method of using the keyboard through touch-typing. Make all your computer-input work faster. Have fun practicing speed, accuracy and rhythm. Instruction is paced to suit each individual and completed online. 

 

BASIC COMPUTERS

 

This course is for those interested in learning about computers.  Topics include types of computers, how they function, and computer terminology.  Word processing, spreadsheets and other software programs are presented. 


BASIC MICROSOFT EXCEL 2007

 

Balance a checkbook, work with calculations and utilize the fill handle. Freeze panes, work with rows and columns, format and sort data and learn about printing spreadsheets. This class is everything you need to know to begin creating spreadsheets for work or home use.

 

BASIC MICROSOFT POWERPOINT 2007

 

Create slides with text and pictures; apply color schemes, transitions, animations and design templates. Learn to create the style of shows you have seen at weddings, lectures, bridal and baby showers and business meetings.

 

BASIC MICROSOFT PUBLISHER 2007

 

Use toolbars and menus to learn the basics of this desktop publishing program for preparing a tri-fold brochure. 

 

BASIC MICROSOFT WORD 2007

 

Learn the basic skills to create a quality text document on your computer. Highlight text, fine-tune fonts, set margins and work with page views. Align text, create columns, spell check, copy and paste, use the Tab key and discuss printer options.

 

EMAIL BASICS

 

Prerequisite: Maneuvering through the Internet Learn how to identify different web-based emails and how to use them; Yahoo, Hotmail and Gmail. Students will discuss various functions that go along with having an email account such as Instant Messenger Programs and video chat.

 

FACEBOOK-LINKED IN-SKYPE-TWITTER

 

Do you want to be able to network with your friends, extended family, or business associates? Learn how to chat, blog, upload pictures, add friends, instant message and play games through these popular sites.

 

 

GETTING THE MOST FROM MICROSOFT OUTLOOK

 

Learn how to set appointments, use the calendar, create a distribution list, filter, maintain contacts, take notes, journal, browse the web, use the to-do bar, send calendar snapshots, send text and picture messages.

 

INTERMEDIATE MICROSOFT EXCEL 2007

 

Learn to create, modify, print and format worksheets; work with basic formulas; understand relative and absolute cell referencing.

MAKE YOUR PRINTER WORK FOR YOU

 

Learn how to install to a few different types of network configurations. Understand the difference between a laser and a bubble jet and how to use the various functions on a printer. Explore the market to see what different printers will do.

 

MANEUVERING THROUGH THE INTERNET

 

Students will learn a broad overview of the internet and look at different browsers; Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. Students will also learn what a secure site is and discuss basic functions of the browser, cookies and icons.

 

TRANSITIONING TO MICROSOFT OFFICE 2007

 

This course is designed for students who are upgrading from Office 2003. What’s new, what’s changed and what’s been removed will be discussed in Word. The new interface is presented so students can become accustomed to the Ribbon, Quick access toolbar, office menu and other aspects of the improved workflow. 

 

USING THE INTERNET TO JOB SEARCH

 

Prerequisite: Internet class

Create a resume. Upload it to job networking sites. Learn how to use the internet to job search.

 

Special Interest Classes

 

ALL BREED DOG GROOMING

 

Learn the techniques and practical aspects of dog grooming. You will learn to use the different tools and equipment necessary to make your dog look like a champion, whether your pet is pedigreed, or a mixed breed. Problem or aggressive dogs are not permitted in the class. Students will need to furnish their own tools based on a list that will be given to them. The first class is an orientation without dogs. Class is limited to 10 students.

 

COMMUNITY SPANISH: A SURVIVAL GUIDE FOR ENGLISH SPEAKERS

 

This course is designed for those who want a quick and easy way to learn everyday Spanish. This program was developed by Command Spanish®, the world’s largest program of occupational language training programs. No prior knowledge is required.

Trade & Industrial

 

FORKLIFT OPERATION

 

The eight hours of classroom and operating instruction give students the general knowledge and feel for the skills necessary for the safe operation of forklifts.  While instruction follows the OSHA Standard, the participant cannot be certified, as that must be accomplished site and equipment-specific by the operator's employer.

 

OUTDOOR POWER EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE

 

The Outdoor Power Equipment class is designed to show students the proper means of maintaining, repairing and troubleshooting lawn and garden equipment. From push to riding mowers, string trimmers to tillers, learn the basics fundamentals that can be applied to many applications. A systematic troubleshooting approach will be taught to determine problems quickly and with the least amount of disassembly. Sign-up now and just start your mechanical skills today! Tools will be provided. Students can bring in units for repair after the first couple of classes.

 

WELDING

 

Learn the basic techniques of shielded metal arc welding (stick), MIG & TIG, as well as burning and cutting techniques. No previous experience necessary. Class is mostly a “hands-on” practical lab experience. Students must provide welding helmet, gloves, leather boots, safety glasses, chipper hammer, 10” vice grips, and a stainless steel wire brush. (Estimated amount for supplies, $73).  These items may be purchased thru sites like Fastenal, Praxair, or Valley National Gas.
