COVID19 Family Update March 16, 2020
March 16, 2020
Dear Tolles Families:
None of us has ever been in a situation like this before. The decisions being made, and needing to be made, are changing at lightning speed and we are all feeling the stress of that. I am writing to reiterate that we will continue to send out the most up to date information we have along with the new decisions we are making. I do ask for your grace and patience as it may appear over the next several weeks that we are changing our minds about how we will handle things and the truth is, we probably are. Each time new information is presented to us, we are making new decisions and perhaps changing course. I can say for certain that each new decision will be made with each student and staff member’s health and safety at the forefront.
This is what we know today, March 16, 2020.
You can reach our offices between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm March 18-20 and March 30 - April 3 at 614-873-4666. Offices will be completely closed during Spring Break, March 23 - 27. The Career Campus building is closed to the public during this extended school closure.
All assignments and classroom communication will be delivered via Google Classroom.
Students will participate in online learning where their assignments will be graded and count toward their final grades on March 18, 19, 20, March 30, 31, and April 1, 2, and 3. Should this time of school closure be extended, we will communicate additional information.
Students do not need to mirror their class schedule while they are at home. However, to demonstrate their participation in online learning, students will need to log into the attendance form in every class, everyday by 2 pm. If students do not log in to their first period class or contact their first period teacher via phone by 2 pm, they can expect a phone call from a teacher or aide asking them about their work and what assistance they may need. If teachers or aides are unable to contact a student by 3 pm, he/she will be marked as not participating in school for that day. An all-call notification will be sent to the parent number we have on file. Likewise, if students get behind in assignments, you can expect an all-call message as well.
Quick Info for Students
Each day you will be able to reach the school and receive any assistance with technology that you might need. Call 614-873-4666 and someone in the Career Campus Office will direct your call.
Please contact teachers directly with any learning questions. Their phone number is listed inside of their Google Classroom.
Students who need any special support during this time are encouraged to reach out to classroom teachers and Intervention Specialists. Teachers who serve students with an IEP or 504 plan will be in constant communication with students and families to ensure their learning needs are met in the best way possible during this time. Because we are operating in an online environment, it is necessary for students and families to check their school/Tolles email frequently to look for emails from their Intervention Specialists or 504 Coordinator. Thank you for helping with this.
Students involved in any kind of internship will have that experience postponed. Students will not be permitted to continue to work as a school assignment. Likewise, teachers will not assign work-based learning or assignments that require a student to leave his/her home.
We do not know what the long-term implications for state testing and other mandates are at this time. However, the Governor has made it very clear that the state will be flexible to accommodate this unprecedented situation.
Should your family need any assistance with food, many of our associate schools are offering breakfast and lunches. Dublin is offering grab and go lunch and breakfast at Scioto and Riverside elementary schools and the food is open to anyone. Hilliard is serving all students as well. Please reach out to your associate school to learn about their plans. Likewise, you can find food assistance at this link. Food Pantry Locations and Contacts.
We will continue to communicate via email, social media, our website and our all-call system. I cannot thank you enough for being patient and flexible during this time. Each one of the Tolles team members joined this profession to serve young people and their families; desiring to make a positive difference in the world and no global pandemic can change that. We are here to Lift All Students.
