Admission Requirements for the Firefighting I & II Program
Prior to enrollment in a fire training program, you must meet the following requirements:
BCI background check. If you are having your background check done at a location other than Tolles, you will need to have the agency use ORC 109 578 and have a direct mail copy sent to Tolles Career & Technical Center, Attn: Josh McDowell, 7877 US Hwy 42 South, Plain City, OH 43064. It is highly suggested you complete this at least 30 days prior to the start of the program in case there is a delay in getting the results. Students will NOT be accepted until the results are received.
Have not been convicted of, pled guilty to, or had a judicial finding of guilt for any of the following:
Fraud or material deception in applying for, or obtaining, a certificate issued in accordance with OAC 4765-11-03 (A) (16) and 4765-11-03 (A) (17)
A felony
A misdemeanor involving moral turpitude
A violation of any federal, state, county, or municipal narcotics law
Any act committed in another state, that if committed in Ohio, would constitute a violation set forth in this paragraph
Facial hair must comply with OSHA regulations for a respirator (no beard).
Have a valid driver's license.
Individuals should be in good physical condition, verified by a physician- Physical Examination Form
Course Pre-requisites:
Students are required to complete the following online training courses titled National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100c, 200c, 700b and 800d. There is not fee associated with these courses and time will also be provided in class to complete these as well.

When you complete these courses you will receive an email with a link that opens the completion certificate.
Attendance and Make-Up Hours
It is expected that students will be present for all class sessions. If students are absent, they are expected to arrange for make-up sessions upon their return. Please reference the Attendance Requirements section of the handbook for additional clarification on the 90% attendance requirement.
Assessment and Grades
Students will be evaluated and assigned grades for their performance within the course curriculum. Students must maintain a minimum 75% score on the class final and overall course grade to sit for the Firefighter II exam. Please reference the Satisfactory Academic Progress section of the handbook.

$2700.00 (2025-2026 school year)

Payment in full or a signed payment plan is required on or before the first date of class. Accepted registrations are on a first come, first serve basis. Seats are limited to the first 28 students.

Tolles is a chartered facility through the Ohio Department of Public Safety and is also an accredited program.
Registration Information
This class meets on Tuesdays/Thursdays from 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM and Saturdays from 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM. Attendance is required for all class days.
